ISLAND STYLE
Playing golf barefoot is not unheard of in Hawaii. But wearing golf shoes inspired by the state’s white sand beaches and turquoise water might be equally as comfortable. OluKai, an ocean-lifestyle brand, has come up with just that in two pairs of golf footwear ($150). For men, the Kā‘anapali is made with ultra-lightweight materials, a tough outer shell for reinforced stability, and a spikeless design featuring Wet Grip Rubber for multi-directional traction. “The Kā‘anapali is super breathable, very soft, and my feet stay cool. You forget you’re even wearing shoes. They’re just that comfortable,” said Reece Alnas, assistant golf professional at Kuki‘o Golf and Beach Club on the island of Hawai’i. For women, the lightweight and sporty Kawela is crafted with water- and stain-resistant materials, plus an all-new cushioned midsole for consistent comfort. The shoe is named after Kawela Bay, one of the most secluded beaches on the North Shore of O‘ahu. The company also gives back to Hawai’i with every pair of shoes sold via its own 501C3, the Ama OluKai Foundation, which works to preserve land and ocean, serve local communities and maintain the Hawaiian culture and traditions.
