Welcome to the Family

The Best Way to Beach

Exclusively at New York Beach Club

By Joëlle Creamer

Palm tree fronds sway in the warm breeze. Pristine white sand seemingly goes on for miles. A sea of tranquil blue fills the expansive view, the sunlight dancing and sparkling off the gently crashing waves. The scent of salt water and coconut fills the air. The constant buzz of everyday fades and worries softly melt away.

It’s paradise. And it’s less than 23 miles from 5th Avenue.

Originally established as a private beach club in the 1930s, today’s New York Beach Club (NYBC) claims an expansive eight-acre oceanfront property on Long Island’s Atlantic coast. Members, their families, and guests enjoy white sand and a host of amenities, including two heated pools, splash park, full-service restaurant with oceanfront dining, and beachside tiki bar. Best of all, NYBC offers the many pleasures of beach-going without any of the hassle.

PRIVATE OASIS

“It’s like having your own private oasis in the summer here in New York,” said Alex Jacobson, NYBC president. “Members can expect privacy, service, and a five-star beach experience from the moment they pull up.”

Open Memorial Day to Labor Day, with some bonus September weekends, if the NYBC scene feels like it’s from a movie, it is from a TV show. NYBC was featured on HGTV’s Beach Cabana Royale. Hosted by Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi (best known for her popular role on Jersey Shore), the show follows three families as they renovate their cabanas. The club has also been featured on Floribama Shore and The Daily Show, as well as in countless model and location shoots.

Under the Jacobson’s ownership for the last nine seasons, NYBC joined the Troon Privé family in early 2024. “The beach club model has stood the test of time, but when I purchased this club, it was tired and in disrepair. We renovated and updated the facilities and turned our focus to service and the social experience,” he said.

Prior to Jacobson’s leadership, NYBC was primarily an adults-only beach club; it maintains its private stature, but now welcomes families and members of all ages.

“We’re a full-service luxury resort that you don’t need to get on a plane to get to,” said Alina Semenova, executive assistant and planner-of-all-things at NYBC. “Everything is catered to you, all your needs are met.” And NYBC has all the extras to prove it.

PERSONALIZED SERVICE

NYBC’s capacity is just 250 coveted units, which is beach club lingo for 250 spots in the form of oceanfront cabanas, pool cabanas, shower lockers, and lockers. The cabanas include an open interior area, changing room, and shower with hot and cold water. Each also has electricity, and can house a mini fridge. They also come with a table and chairs that get set up outside the cabana on the patio, along with lounge chairs in front of your unit, at the pool, or at the beach. Each member family rents a dedicated unit, and it’s theirs to enjoy for the entire season.

“It’s home away from home; members customize the interiors of their units to fit their needs, and the cabana crew helps set everything up. The hardest work members have to do is packing up their cars at the start of the season,” Semenova shared.

The property is designed in quadrants, called courts. Members can choose from the quiet serenity of the adult-only Court, or the activity and comfort of the dedicated Family Court. The Pool Court offers swimming, sand-free lounging, and easy access to the playground, while the Entertainment Court is reserved for adults and is closest to dining and entertainment.

Each member is assigned a dedicated cabana crew member for the entire summer. And the cabana crew member’s responsibility is singular: to ensure a memorable VIP experience for the member, their family, and guests … all season long.

Additional member conveniences include valet parking, chairs and umbrellas, yoga classes, and massage services (by appointment only). NYBC also offers “Mommy’s helpers,” an activities team that supports parents with the safety and entertainment of the smallest NYBC members.

OCEANFRONT DINING

NYBC is home to the only open-air, toes-in-the-sand dining experience on the south shore of Long Island. The full-service restaurant is a convenient spot for sandwiches and burgers, pizzas, hearty salads, and wraps. NYBC’s signature Long Island Beach Tea is a daytime favorite, and for those who prefer refreshments on ice, buckets are delivered straight to lounge chairs, at their cabanas, or oceanside on the beach.

When twilight sets in, dinner hours showcase a tempting menu of seafood, specialty entrées, a robust wine and cocktail list, and an oceanfront view that can’t be matched. The tiki bar is the newest addition to NYBC’s dining experience. Happy hours feature small bites, signature cocktails, and an island-time vibe.

Activities are a big part of the offering at NYBC. “When people ask me what I do, I say I throw a beach party every weekend in the summer,” Jacobson shared. “NYBC is a hot spot; we host 1,000 members and their guests every weekend.”

It’s true. Every weekend and summer holiday, NYBC hosts live bands and themed parties, for both adults and children. Member favorites include white parties, Hawaiian night, a lobster bake, foam parties, and dance parties in the sand, courtesy of local cover bands.

The club’s daily activities calendar includes bingo, seashell art, beach yoga, volleyball, beach tennis, and basketball. In addition, the Atlantic Beach Boardwalk begins at the NYBC, extending the length of the shoreline; many enjoy walking, jogging, and bike riding on the path, or taking kids for a stroller ride for nap time so that the parents can continue to enjoy their beach day and lifestyle.

“We ship in palm trees every year, just for our members,” Jacobson expressed. “It’s just one of the many things we do to create a beach paradise right here in New York.”
